Forest School

New for 2025!

Blackland Farm Forest School is a chance to connect, strive, create and explore what a natural setting has to offer. Using woodland or natural environments, an opportunity for inspiration and learning grows from within.

“They’re not just playing in nature, they are: Learning, creating, sensing, believing, relaxing, exploring, observing, wondering, connecting, discovering, appreciating, understanding, experimenting…” – Penny Whitehouse

Forest School is a child-centred inspirational learning process that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions. It is a long-term program that supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting (Forest School Association, 2024).
Blackland Farm is home to incredible woodlands where bluebells bloom and deer roam. It is a tranquil space filled with endless excitement as we use our woodland to create positive change. We build shelters, climb and zip wire down from platforms in the trees, constantly striving to use the nature which we are surrounded by, to educate and benefit others- to encourage and stir exhilaration within our natural surroundings and learn about the incredible things it has to offer.

With such a beautiful location, and great resources, we are excited to be able to offer an amazing Forest School programme filled with a variety of exciting projects and activities which aim to focus on each and every participant and their individuality and interests . This is dynamic and adaptable to fit in with groups personal needs and aims. Some examples of activities which we offer includes:

  • Nature Crafts – including bird feeders, leaf prints, dream catchers, willow weaving
  • Shelter Building
  • Basic tool use – Bow saws, Palm drills, Loppers, etc.

Blackland Farm Forest School believe that the possibility is endless. The only limit is our own imagination.
Within our Forest School, a participant-led approach is always of the upmost importance. This allows participants to have a part in designing their own development and discover interests they may wish to grow as time progresses. Taking part in a long-term programme allows participants the time to learn about themselves and a moment to focus on discovery. All interests are respected, and guidance is given when needed to ensure positive development is taking place throughout.
We offer a variety of different programmes. The nature and freedom of this Forest School l allows us to be able to cater to your specific needs and help to provide what your group may be looking for. Please feel free to get in touch and discuss the programme you need.
At Blackland Farm Forest School, we shine a light on the importance of caring for the environment, for what surrounds us and how we can all play our part in making sure future generations to come, getting to play in the environments we are lucky to have, as well as gain knowledge on the eco-system we live in and how to look after it.

Group Forest School Programme

The Group Forest School programme spends six 3-hour sessions in consecutive weeks learning using the forest to guide and inspire- learning new skills which could include fire lighting, nature crafting, campfire cooking, shelter building, rope bridges and swings and many other forest-based activities. Using a participant-based framework, participants are given an opportunity to lead and learn for themselves whilst being safety supervised and encouraged. This allows participants to work out interests and be given ample opportunity to share and focus completely on personal interests. Each session runs with a variety of options to be chosen between to allow choice and independence. At the end of each session, there is an opportunity to reflect, to ensure each, and every participant is supported with their forest school journey.
